of cybespace, constructed identities and the body....
when i look at these "avatars" i am at a loss of things to say. i come across them everywhere, all the time on cyberspace. they are just so.... normal?
What is the difference between cyber space and non-cyber space? on cyberspace, i can carefully put together my persona. I am completely in control of what i do with my cyber personality. I can choose friends,I can block friends, I can delete conversations, i can lie, i can fake things, i can be on fancy holidays while i sit at my study desk!!
One of the fanciest things that cyberspace offers me however is that through an avatar I can just look like anybody else! When i choose an avatar, i choose from a set of 5 skin colours, 5 hairstyles, 30 styles of clothing and 12 backdrops! I dont have to worry about whether i fit in or not..whether I look good as anybody else or not. When everyone has an avatar, everyone can look like anyone else!
In this strange way, the cyberworld seems an equal world. Maybe?
